We offer this web site as an example of the progress of strawbale construction for other interested parties. We wanted to utilize strawbales as an alternative to traditional house design. The high elevation and the broad temperature extremes posed a design challenge for a strawbale structure.
Our home is located on 42 acres of sloping forested land about 10 miles due west of Mt. Shasta in Siskiyou County, California. This land sits at an elevation of 3,750 feet. We experience eight to ten feet of snow each winter and one to two weeks of temperatures below twenty degrees farenheit. Summer high temperatures in July fall in the mid-nineties.
